Non-Nano Zinc Oxide
INCI: Zinc Oxide · Mineral UV filter
Mechanism of Action
Zinc Oxide provides physical (not chemical) UV protection — particles sit on the skin's surface and reflect/scatter UVA and UVB wavelengths, rather than absorbing radiation via a photochemical reaction. This means protection begins immediately on application.¹
Clinical Evidence
| Property | Detail |
|---|---|
| UV Protection | Reflects/scatters broad-spectrum UVA and UVB.¹ |
| Particle Safety | Non-nano (>100nm) particles do not cross into the bloodstream.¹ |
Formulation Rationale
SPF 50 broad-spectrum protection requires meaningful active-filter concentration; 25% is on the higher end for mineral formulas. We use non-nano particles exclusively, prioritizing established surface-level safety over a more cosmetically elegant (but less established) nano finish.
Usage Protocol
Apply liberally to all sun-exposed areas as the final step in your routine; reapply every 2 hours outdoors or after swimming/sweating.
Safety Profile
Regarded as one of the safest UV filters available; well tolerated by sensitive and acne-prone skin. Patch test before first use; avoid direct eye contact.
